MANAGER PUBLIC POLICY (SPAIN)

In addition, to serving end customers, Amazon offers a range of services to business customers, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), which provides Amazon`s developer customers with access to in-the-cloud infrastructure services based on Amazon`s own back-end technology platform. Amazon continues to build out a successful Global Online Display Advertising business across all properties by leveraging Amazon’s world-class personalization technologies to build highly relevant ads for our advertising partners and customers. As Amazon grows the business in Spain, we are seeking a Manager of Public Policy- Spain to expand and reinforce our relationships with policy makers, local and regional governments and economic partners. This person will represent and advocate the company’s policy positions on issues affecting our operations in Spain under the supervision of the Senior Public Policy Director of Amazon Italy/Spain and he/she will work with others of the Spanish PP team to address key topics as such as Sustainability, Operations Regional support, legislative initiatives at national and local level, and facilitate high-level meetings with key policymakers, association executives, and other relevant stakeholders. This person will work closely with Amazon’s business, Legal, PR and other teams in Spain, across Europe and the globe to develop messaging and policy positions and forge key relationships with political stakeholders. Own and lead specific elements of our overall policy priorities for the country and be able to advise teams across Europe.
The successful candidate must be curious, enjoy being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
The role is based in Madrid. Responsibilities require that candidates be willing to travel as needed.
The Public Policy Manager, Spain, will:
§ Command highly effective oral and written Spanish, excellent oral and written English and interpersonal communication skills.
§ Have policy experience, a minimum of 8 years, in equivalent position within industry, within a public administration, in corporate government relations, and/or in a trade association.
§ Ability to identify and understand key technical aspects pertaining to corporate operations in legislative and regulatory proposals, understand business implications, and synthesize policy documents for internal and external customers.
§ Build and develop relationships at national and local level and put in place a network of influencers.
§ Establish and maintain dialogue with Spanish political stakeholders at all levels, both nationally and locally.
§ Identify, anticipate, and advise on political and legislative developments, risks and opportunities in Spain impacting Amazon’s operations.
§ Ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others is required. He/she must be flexible and demonstrate strong judgment/decision-making skills, and political acumen.
§ A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a discipline such as Law, Economics or Engineering.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
§ Leadership experience in advancing a public policy agenda and strategy in Spain.
§ A strong network with political stakeholders in Spain at a local and national level, with a demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at the highest corporate and political levels.
§ An extensive understanding of the Spanish political process and climate, with an informed European and global perspective, combined with sound and practical business judgment and common sense.
§ A track record for effectively leveraging resources including internal teams, coalitions, associations, and other relevant organizations.
§ The ability to persuasively communicate complex and technical concepts and issues to political stakeholders.
§ Maintain highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality and integrity, with a strong professional reputation in the industry.
§ An advanced degree in Public Policy / Public Affairs is preferred.
